Why this status applies
A Night in the Show is a Charlie Chaplin short film produced by the Essanay Film Manufacturing Company and released in the United States on November 20, 1915. Under current US copyright law, the maximum term of protection for works published with copyright notice before 1928 is 95 years from the date of publication. Accordingly, all works published before January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain in the United States regardless of renewal status.
Since this film was released in 1915, its copyright expired no later than the end of 2010 (based on a calculation of 95 years, though it likely would have expired much earlier if registration/renewal requirements were not met under the 1909 Act). Today, it is part of the public domain and is widely available on platforms like the Internet Archive and via various public domain distributors.
