The film 'A Submarine Pirate', starring Syd Chaplin and directed by Charles Avery and Syd Chaplin, was released on November 14, 1915, by the Keystone Film Company (distributed by Triangle Film Corporation). Under current United States copyright law, the maximum term of protection for any work published before January 1, 1928, has expired. All works published in the U.S. prior to this date have entered the public domain regardless of whether they were originally registered or if their copyrights were renewed. As a 1915 production, this film's copyright expired no later than 90 years after publication or 75 years after the death of the creator under older statutes (and finally capped by the 1998 Extension Act reaching the 95-year limit). It definitively entered the public domain on January 1, 1991.
