Under the current laws of the United States, all works published or registered before January 1, 1929, have entered the public domain. This film, part of the 'Alice Comedies' series created by Walt Disney, was released in 1924. Works from 1924 entered the public domain 75 years after publication under the 1976 Act, and any remaining copyrights expired no later than January 1, 2000. Because the film was released well before the 1929 cutoff, it is definitively in the public domain regardless of whether the copyright was originally registered or renewed. There are no restoration or extension provisions that apply to US works of this vintage to move them back into protected status.
