Arrival of immigrants, Ellis Island

The film 'Arrival of immigrants, Ellis Island' was filmed by cinematographer G.W. 'Billy' Bitzer in May 1906 and was registered for copyright by the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company as a series of paper prints. Under the U.S. copyright laws of the time and the subsequent 1909 and 1976 Acts, the maximum possible term of copyright protection for works published before 1928 has expired. Specifically, works published or registered before January 1, 1928, entered the public domain in the United States no later than 75 years after publication (under the 1976 Act extensions) or remained in the public domain if their original 28-year or renewal 28-year terms expired prior to the enactment of current extensions. As this film was registered in 1906, it became public domain many decades ago. It is currently preserved by the Library of Congress as part of the Paper Print Collection.
