Captain Calamity

Captain Calamity was released in 1936 and was originally registered for copyright by Grand National Films, Inc. on November 21, 1936 (LP7613). Under the Copyright Act of 1909, works from 1936 required a manual renewal filing with the US Copyright Office during the 28th year of their first term to extend protection for a second term. A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) confirms that no renewal was ever filed for this title by Grand National, its successor Hi-Point, or any other claimant during the 1963-1964 renewal window. Because the copyright was not renewed, the film entered the public domain on January 1, 1965. The film's status as public domain is further supported by its presence in the catalogs of numerous public domain specialty distributors (such as Alpha Video) and its frequent inclusion in '50 Film Pack' collections from Mill Creek Entertainment, which specialize in non-renewed content from the 1930s and 40s.
