Catnipped

The film 'Catnipped' was a Columbia Pictures 'Color Rhapsodies' animated short. According to the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE), it was originally registered for US copyright on November 27, 1944 (Reg. No. LP13110). Under the Copyright Act of 1909, works registered between 1928 and 1963 required a formal renewal filing during the 28th year of the initial term to extend protection to the second term of 67 years. A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database, the U Penn CCE renewal index, and the Film Superlist: Motion Pictures in the U.S. Public Domain (Vol 2: 1940-1949) indicates no renewal record was found for this title. While Columbia Pictures renewed the vast majority of its feature films and many of its shorts, various entries in the Screen Gems and Color Rhapsodies series successfully lapsed into the public domain due to administrative oversight or a lack of commercial interest in the 1970s. As no renewal was filed in 1971 or 1972, the copyright expired at the end of its 28th year (1972).
