College Capers

College Capers is a 1930 animated short (part of the Flip the Frog series) produced by Ub Iwerks and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Under the Copyright Act of 1909, works published between 1928 and 1963 required a renewal of copyright in the 28th year to maintain protection for a second term. A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) indicates that while the film was originally registered for copyright on September 29, 1930 (Registration No. LP1636), no renewal was filed during the statutory window (1957–1958). Because the copyright was not renewed, the film entered the public domain in the United States upon the expiration of its initial 28-year term in 1958. This film is frequently found on public domain compilation DVDs and in archive.org collections without challenge from the successor of Iwerks or MGM, further corroborating its status as public domain. It is also listed in Hurst's Film Superlist as a public domain title.
