College Hounds

College Hounds is a two-reel comedy short part of the 'Dogville Comedies' series (also known as 'All-Barkie Dogville Comedies'). It was produced by Jack White for Educational Pictures and released on March 30, 1930. Under the Copyright Act of 1909, works published between 1928 and 1963 required a renewal of copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office during the 28th year of the first term to maintain protection. A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) reveals no renewal record for this title. While most MGM-distributed Dogville shorts were renewed, many produced by Educational Pictures/Jack White in this period fell into the public domain due to non-renewal. Because the first 28-year term expired in 1958 and no renewal was filed, the film entered the public domain in the United States. It is frequently found on public domain compilation DVDs and archive.org without legal challenge.
