Conquest of Cochise (1953) is a US motion picture originally produced and distributed by Columbia Pictures. Under the 1909 Copyright Act, works from this era required a renewal registration in the 28th year to maintain protection. A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) confirms that the copyright was successfully renewed in 1981. The original registration was filed on September 15, 1953 (LP2917). The renewal registration was filed on January 5, 1981, by Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (RE-80-602). Because the film was renewed within the proper statutory window, its copyright was extended for a second term and now falls under the protection of the 1976 Copyright Act as a work-for-hire, lasting 95 years from publication. It is scheduled to enter the public domain in the United States on January 1, 2049.
