Creature of Destruction

Creature of Destruction is a 1967 television film directed by Larry Buchanan and produced for American International Pictures (AIP). Under the Copyright Act of 1909 (as amended for the 1964–1977 period), works were required to be published with a valid copyright notice to secure protection. While films from this era received automatic renewal, they still required a valid initial notice upon publication. Research indicates that this film, along with several other Buchanan-directed AIP-TV productions (such as 'Mars Needs Women' and 'In the Year 2889'), was released without a valid copyright notice on the original prints. Furthermore, a search of the U.S. Copyright Office records and the Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) shows no original registration for this title. The film has been widely distributed for decades by public domain labels such as Alpha Video, Sinister Cinema, and Retromedia, and is available on the Internet Archive without takedown claims from the successor in interest (MGM/Orion). The Film Superlist (Hurst/Baer) and other PD film authorities routinely list this title as public domain due to the lack of notice and registration.
