Cubby's World Flight

Cubby's World Flight is an animated short produced by the Van Beuren Corporation and distributed by RKO Radio Pictures in 1933. Under the Copyright Act of 1909, works published between 1928 and 1963 required a renewal filing with the US Copyright Office during the 28th year of the first term to maintain protection. A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) for the period of 1960–1962 (the renewal window for a 1933 publication) yields no record of renewal for this title. While most Van Beuren cartoons were originally registered (this film was registered under number MP4263 on August 25, 1933), the failure to renew the copyright caused the work to lapse into the public domain in 1961. This specific cartoon is widely recognized as public domain by film historians and is frequently included in public domain animation compilations (such as those from Thunderbean Animation and Alpha Video) and available on the Internet Archive without restriction. Because it is a US-origin work that failed to renew, it was not eligible for URAA restoration.
