Cuesta Abajo

Cuesta Abajo is a Spanish-language film produced by the US studio Paramount Pictures at their Astoria Studios in New York. As a film published in the US between 1928 and 1963, its copyright status was subject to the 1909 Copyright Act, which required a renewal registration in the 28th year following publication to extend protection beyond the initial term. Primary registration for the film was recorded on August 10, 1934, under number LP4864 by Paramount Productions, Inc. An exhaustive search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) shows no record of a renewal filing in the 27th or 28th year (1961-1962). Under US law at the time, failure to renew resulted in the work entering the public domain at the expiration of the first 28-year term. The film is widely cited in public domain registries, such as Film Superlist, as having failed to renew.
