Under the Copyright Renewal Act of 1992, works published between 1964 and 1977 are subject to automatic renewal; therefore, the absence of a manual renewal record in the Stanford database or the CCE does not place the work in the public domain. For a US production from this era to be in the public domain, it would need to have been published without a valid copyright notice. 'Devil's Angels' was a major theatrical release by American International Pictures (AIP), a studio known for strict adherence to copyright formalities. The film was registered with the US Copyright Office on April 12, 1967, under registration number LP34448. Because the 28th year of its initial term fell in 1995 (after the 1992 automatic renewal amendment), the copyright was automatically extended for a second term. The rights are currently managed by MGM (the successor to the AIP library). The film continues to be commercially exploited through licensed home media and streaming, and it does not appear on reputable public domain lists or in the catalogs of known PD-only distributors.
