Earthquake Ruins, New Majestic Theatre and City Hall

Under US copyright law, all works published before January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain regardless of their original registration or renewal status. This film, produced by the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company, was filmed shortly after the San Francisco earthquake in April 1906 and was registered for copyright by the studio the same year. The Library of Congress holds the Paper Print Collection, which includes this film (copyright registration H77696). Because the work was published and registered more than 95 years ago, its term of protection has expired by law. It is now free to use and distribute without permission from any rightsholder.
