His Mother's Son
1913 · Biograph Company · Dir. D.W. Griffith
The hardship of earning an existence for the family made it impossible for the mother to approve the little pretty things which her daughter liked. Lack of attention made her son dissolute, but later the sturdy stock of his mother showed in him and the cozy home he provided for dad and sister made them forget the past.

Why this status applies
The film 'His Mother's Son' was directed by D.W. Griffith and released on May 1, 1913. As a film produced and published in the United States prior to January 1, 1928, it is definitively in the public domain under current US copyright law.
Under the Copyright Act of 1998 (Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act), all works published in the US before 1928 have seen their copyright terms expire. Even if the copyright had been properly registered (typically as a motion picture photoplay) and later renewed at the 28-year mark, the maximum protection period of 95 years from publication has long since elapsed. No active copyright exists for this title.
