Hoodoo Ann

1916 · Fine Arts Film Company · Dir. Lloyd Ingraham

A teenage orphan (who believes herself to be "hoodooed") is taken in by a childless couple and quickly falls for the boy next door; Her luck seems to have changed. But the idyll is broken up after a trip to the movies-- It seems the 'hoodoo' has returned after she tries to replicate what she'd seen on the screen.

Why this status applies

The film 'Hoodoo Ann', starring Mae Marsh and Robert Harron, was released in the United States on March 26, 1916. Under the current United States copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 304), all works published or registered for copyright before January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain regardless of whether they were renewed. Because this film was published in 1916, its maximum possible copyright protection lasted for 95 years from the date of publication, which would have expired no later than the end of 2011. There are no provisions in US law to extend protection for a 1916 work beyond this 95-year term. The film is officially and definitively in the public domain in the United States.
