The film 'Jesus of Nazareth' (1916), directed by D.W. Griffith for the Biograph Company (often referred to based on Griffith's 1911 footage or re-edited compilations thereof such as 'Judith of Bethulia' or independent 1916 releases like the one by Eclair), was published in the United States prior to January 1, 1928.
