This film was produced by the American Mutoscope & Biograph Company and registered for copyright in October 1903 (registration number H36647). Under the United States copyright law then in effect (the Copyright Act of 1831 and its subsequent 1870 and 1891 revisions), the maximum possible duration of copyright protection for a work published in 1903 was 56 years (an initial 28-year term plus a 28-year renewal). Even if the copyright had been properly renewed in 1930/1931, the protection would have expired no later than the end of 1959. Additionally, all works published in the United States prior to January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain due to the expiration of their copyright terms. As a 1903 release, 'Kiddies Cakewalk' is definitively in the public domain and has been for decades.
