One A.M. is a short film written, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin. It was released on August 7, 1916, by the Mutual Film Corporation. Under the current laws of the United States, all works published or registered before January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain. Because the film's 95-year copyright term (calculated from the date of publication under the 1976 Copyright Act as amended) has expired, it is definitively in the public domain. There is no requirement to search for a copyright renewal in the Stanford or CCE databases because works of this age are no longer eligible for copyright protection regardless of whether they were renewed.
