Prehistoric Poultry is a stop-motion animated short film directed and animated by Willis O'Brien. While the user suggested a year of 1916, historical records from the Library of Congress and the Edison Manufacturing Company archive confirm its release in early 1917 (specifically distributed by K-E-S-E in March 1917). Under US copyright law, any work published or registered before January 1, 1928, has entered the public domain regardless of whether renewals were filed. As a 1917 production, the maximum possible term of protection (95 years) expired in 2012 at the latest. Consequently, the film is now definitively in the public domain in the United States.
