Why this status applies
Taste the Blood of Dracula was released in the UK in May 1970 and in the US in June 1970. Under the Copyright Renewal Act of 1992, works published between 1964 and 1977 are granted automatic renewal, meaning a manual search for a renewal filing is unnecessary for its US copyright status. The film was registered for copyright with the US Copyright Office by Hammer Film Productions, Ltd., on June 19, 1970, under registration number LP38148.
While the film is a British production, it was distributed in the US by Warner Bros. and maintained a valid US copyright throughout the 'notice window.' Furthermore, as a UK production, it would be subject to URAA restoration (17 USC § 104A) even if notice deficiencies had existed, because the work was still under copyright in the United Kingdom on January 1, 1996. The film continues to be actively commercialized by Warner Bros. and Hammer today in various home media and streaming formats.
