Why this status applies

The Bewitched Shepherd is a short silent film released in 1906. Under U.S. copyright law, all works published before January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain regardless of their original registration status or country of origin. Historical records from the Library of Congress and the AFI Catalog confirm the film's 1906 release date. Because the film is significantly older than the 1928 cutoff, it is definitively in the public domain in the United States. There is no need to search for renewals or notice compliance as the maximum possible term of protection for a 1906 work has expired.
