The Frozen North

The Frozen North is a short parody film starring Buster Keaton and released in August 1922. Under the current US copyright law (the 1998 Copyright Term Extension Act), all works published or registered before January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain. This is an absolute rule based on the expiration of the maximum 95-year term for works of that era. Because the film was released in 1922, its copyright term expired no later than the end of 1997. It is now free for use, reproduction, and distribution in the United States. No renewal search is required for works of this age, as the transition to the public domain is automatic upon reaching the 95-year age limit.
