The Hayseed

The Hayseed is a two-reel silent comedy film starring Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle and Buster Keaton. It was released in the United States on October 26, 1919, by Paramount Pictures (under the Comique Film Corp brand). Under current U.S. copyright law, specifically the Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998, all works published or registered in the United States prior to January 1, 1929, have entered the public domain. Because this film was published in 1919, its statutory copyright term has expired regardless of whether it was originally registered or renewed correctly. The film moved into the public domain on January 1, 1995 (under the old 75-year rule) and remains there under the current 95-year rule which now applies to works from 1929 onward.
