The Mad Whirl

The Mad Whirl is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by William Seiter and starring May McAvoy. Under the terms of the Copyright Act of 1976 and the subsequent Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, all works published or registered in the United States prior to January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain due to the expiration of their maximum 95-year copyright term. Even if the film had been properly registered and renewed (which would have extended its protection to the end of its 95th year), it would have entered the public domain on January 1, 2021. As a pre-1928 production, it is now definitively in the public domain regardless of whether the original copyright was renewed in the 1950s.
