The Property Man

The film 'The Property Man' (often titled 'Charlot garçon de théâtre' in French-speaking regions) was released on August 1, 1914, starring Charlie Chaplin and produced by Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios. Under U.S. copyright law, any work published or registered before January 1, 1928, has reached the end of its maximum possible copyright term and is definitively in the public domain. While Keystone registered many of its films for copyright in the Catalog of Copyright Entries (CCE) at the time of release, these registrations are now moot as all protections for 1914 works expired no later than 1990 (75 years after publication under the 1976 Act) or earlier if renewals were not filed. Regardless of renewal status, the pre-1928 threshold is the absolute cut-off for public domain status in the United States.
