The Thief of Bagdad

The Thief of Bagdad, starring Douglas Fairbanks and directed by Raoul Walsh, was released in 1924. Under current US copyright law (the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act), all works published or registered in the United States prior to January 1, 1928, have entered the public domain regardless of renewal status. Even before the 1998 extension, the film's initial 28-year term would have expired in 1952. While it was successfully renewed in 1952 (Renewal Reg. R93374), the maximum 95-year protection period for works from this era expired at the end of 2019. As of January 1, 2020, the film is definitively in the public domain in the United States. This is confirmed by its presence in numerous public domain archives and its widespread availability for unrestricted use and distribution.
