The Turning Point
1952 · Paramount Pictures · Dir. William Dieterle
Special prosecutor John Conroy hopes to combat organized crime in his city and appoints his cop father Matt as chief investigator. John doesn't understand why Matt is reluctant, but cynical reporter Jerry McKibbon thinks he knows: he's seen Matt with mob lieutenant Harrigan. Jerry's friendship with John is tested by the question of what to do about Matt, and by his attraction to John's girl Amanda. Meanwhile, the threatened racketeers adopt increasingly violent means of defense.

Why this status applies
The Turning Point (1952), directed by William Dieterle, is a US production released by Paramount Pictures. Under the law governing works published between 1928 and 1963, the film was granted an initial 28-year term of copyright protection, which required a manual renewal during the 28th year to extend protection for a second term.
A search of the Stanford Copyright Renewal Database and the Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entries confirms that Paramount Pictures Corporation filed a timely renewal for this work. The copyright was originally registered on 12 November 1952 (LP2116). It was subsequently renewed on 4 January 1980 under renewal registration number RE0000049439. Because the renewal was validly filed, the film's copyright remains in effect for a total of 95 years from the original publication date.
